You need very good control of you dog if you are doing protection dog training. One of the obedience exercise many protection dog trainers work on is calling the dog from a bite. Since a lot of dogs really like bite work and find it highly rewarding you need a good level of obedience control to call a dog back after you send it. It also take good control to command the dog to stop biting from a distance. The more drive your dog has the more difficult will be the off leash control.

Pet dogs need the same kind of obedience training and control for everyone’s safety as well. Being able to call the dog away from traffic can be a life saver.
